Lactation Spaces Study

About Us

On average, maternity leave in the United States lasts 6-8 weeks. This often leaves working mothers burdened with balancing their jobs and childcare, placing further stress on the mother and baby.

Separation doesn't just cause significant mental stress for both the mother and baby -  it can also impact the infant's microbiome as well, a crucial factor in the child's development.

Breastmilk provides essential nutrients crucial for the infant’s healthy development and the growth of their gut microbiome. Additionally, skin-to-skin contact during breastfeeding can positively influence the composition of the infant’s microbiota.

To mitigate the risks associated with mother-infant separation, we propose the implementation of baby-friendly lactation spaces. These spaces would enable mothers to bond with and breastfeed their infants throughout the workday, without compromising their ability to work and progress in their careers.
